Recent wildfires across Western North Carolina—including spring activity alarmingly close to home—have made it clear: we cannot afford to ignore the fire risks in our community.

Many properties in Whisper Lake have dead or dying trees, fallen limbs, and overgrown underbrush—some of it dangerously close to homes. These conditions create a serious wildfire hazard, especially as we head into the drier months.

All property owners are asked to take the following actions immediately:

  • Clear dead trees, limbs, and vegetation—especially within 30 feet of any structures.

  • Thin out underbrush and overgrowth that could serve as fuel.

  • Use extreme caution with outdoor flames, including grills and fire pits—especially on dry or windy days.

  • Check your property for fire hazards and address them now, not later.

We’ll continue sharing guidance and resources, but this is not something we can leave to chance. Forest management is no longer optional—it’s a shared responsibility.

If you’re unsure what to do or if you or your guests see an area of concern, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We’re here to help.

Let’s work together to protect our homes, our forest, and our peace of mind.
